The Art of Silversmithing

10 Vessels 10 Days

"An exploration of different ideas and processes that tick over in my head, a sort of three dimensional sketch if you like"

- Alison Jackson

An Introduction
by Mel George (Curator at CraftACT at the time of the exhibition)

Tucked away in her fully functioning studio, Alison makes tinkering sounds – falling somewhere between bells and glass crystal singing – as she hand- raises her objects using stakes and hammers. Harmonising with these tones is Alison’s evolving practice. Since graduating in 2008, she has fervently committed to her craft. She has exhibited in galleries both nationally and internationally, created handmade production lines, and passed on traditional hand skills through teaching.

Her first solo exhibition Table Tools, presented by Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre, is a moment built upon hours, days and years of skills and dedication to her practice. Each object is a thoughtful, beautiful, ceremonial instrument of function.

This video formed part of my first solo exhibition “Table Tools” at CraftACT in 2015.

Documenting just one day in the series, this film was beautifully produced by Rowan at Sixth Row Productions.

10 Vessels 10 Days was acquired by Canberra Museum and Gallery for their permanent collection in 2015.

This film and exhibition was supported by artsACT.
